Chris and Alyssa stand in front of the most important people of their lives for the first time as husband and wife. They pour love over their guests with words of gratitude in the most heartwarming speech. Then Alyssa announces that every guest can open the envelope in front of them. Not knowing what to expect, they open the envelope and find an individualized letter that Alyssa and Chris wrote for each of their guests. A letter about everything the couple love and admire about the receiver. The reception gets very quiet for a moment and then laughter and happy tears fill up the place. It was the sweetest moment.
Alyssa and Chris had a romantic garden brunch wedding on May 31st, 2019 at the Camellia Gardens in Monroe, NC. They decided early on that they didn't want to wait until the evening of their wedding day to see each other. Also, they love hosting brunches for their families and friends, so it was extra special! It was truly a beautiful day, filled with love and happiness.
What was your favorite moment?
“We both agreed our favorite moment was seeing each other for the first look; we were both feeling nervous and then when we got to see each other, the nervousness just melted away. Even with 3 lovely photographers around us, we kind of forgot other people were there and it felt like just the two of us on our wedding day together. The hectic timeline of a morning wedding just seemed to freeze in its tracks. I highly recommend having a first look at your wedding!”
”We wanted our music throughout the day to be very reflective of us and our personalities/relationship. Chris chose the song "Nothing Really Matters" by Mr. Probz to walk down to because he put it on the first mix tape he made me after about 2 months of dating (yes, we are 90's babies!) and the lyrics are just incredibly sweet and bring me back to that time in our relationship. I chose an acoustic version of "I Knew I Loved You" by Savage Garden to walk down to because I've been dreaming of a man like Chris for forever. We spent months writing our own ceremony and vows. We walked back down the aisle to Kygo's "Born to Be Yours" because not only are the lyrics beautiful, but Chris loves tropical house music.”
Alyssa was so kind to give some advice for other brides. If you are a bride, this is for you:
”I have 3 golden rules for wedding planning:
My most specific advice is simple: Hire Fabi!! I'll save my never-ending praise until later, but I feel like we started with a photographer and ended up with a friend. More broadly, this translates into: Choose your vendors wisely. Meet your vendors in person or at the very least over the phone whenever possible. Wedding days can be hectic - I was surprised at just how hectic our tiny wedding was - and you want to be surrounded by people who ease your stress and make you feel comfortable. When you choose people who are great to work with and who you mesh well with, everything else will more or less fall into place on your wedding day. So, take your time finding the right people, and realize when you can compromise on cost and when you can't (hint: the people who are with you from start to finish during the day, such as your photographer, are worth spending the money on!!).
The only real rule of wedding planning is to treat others with kindness and respect. Besides that, there are no real rules. You want to have both men and women stand on your side as part of your bridal party? You can do that! You want to get married on a Monday? You can do that! You want to wear purple? You can do that!
Lastly, give yourself grace when you're stressed about wedding planning. It's a stressful time and it's okay if it doesn't feel like the nonstop magical ride society makes it out to be. There's a big difference between stressing about the process of getting married and stressing about who you're getting married to (as long as you're not doing the second, you're golden). The best part of getting married is actually the being married part!”
Alyssa and Chris, I feel the same exact way. I started this journey with two new clients and ended up with two amazing friends. Thank you so much from driving all the way from Charlotte to Raleigh just to meet me. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your beautiful day. Thank you for trusting me. I love you guys and love your parents and friends too!! I’m obsessed with them. I’m so so so glad you have them to love and support your marriage. I hope those photos will remind you of your love and promises, forever!
